Guararapes won the IF Design Award 2022, one of the world's biggest design prizes, with the creation of the Perspectivas Line, which uses the digital print of aerial photos of the Amazon Rainforest and São Paulo on MDF panels. The collection is the result of a partnership with Schattdecor, the world leader in decorative paper for the panel industry, and Benjamin Grant, founder of the Daily Overview.

The choice of the international jury occurred among more than 10,776 products and projects enrolled. Held annually, since 1954, this is the first time that the award distinguishes a Brazilian wood panel company with the seal of good design, for consumers and the design community.

MDF Floresta of Perspectivas Line, brings biophilia to interior design.

Recently launched, the Perspectivas Line is the result of a creative collaboration, which presents an innovative concept about surface design. In that collection, Guararapes and Schattdecor teamed up with Benjamin Grant, author of Overview, a platform that shows the relationship between man and the Earth through satellite images. Taken at a height of 700,000 meters, two aerial photos were transformed into decorative patterns.

The official iF Design Award ceremony will take place on May 16, in Berlin, Germany.

Partners celebrate unprecedented achievement

What a tremendous honor it is for us receive this iF Award for the collection we created for Guararapes. It was a trues collaboration between myself and the team at Schattdecor to bring this to life, and I can’t wait to see all of the places where these new Perspectives will go

O MDF São Paulo is considered a hybrid pattern, seen from a distance it can be interpreted as a stone.

With Guararapes' trust and partnership, we had the pleasure of developing this surface design project. This recognition also inspires us to keep challenging the limits of creativity and technology

adds Juliana Mayumi, designer and Commercial Manager of Schattdecor.

Perspectivas Line at the Design Award 2022

With the technology of digital printing on decorative paper, satellite photos were reproduced on the surface of the MDF sheets. The reproductions are the result of Benjamin Grant's artistic work. More than stunning photos, the patterns Forest and São Paulo, present in the Perspective Line, offer a new way of looking at the world, awakening new meanings.

Innovative both in the production process and in the exclusive design, the chosen images were applied in a smaller scale, which ensures hybrid characteristics for each pattern, allowing a diversity of interpretations. With this, architects, interior designers, furniture manufacturers, and cabinetmakers can create furniture, as well as cover walls and doors in different living spaces.

MDF Floresta represents the greatest heritage of Brazilian biodiversity, offering a refuge for the eyes and for the soul, since it incorporates different contexts. By reproducing the aerial view of the Amazon Rainforest, with great richness of details, it allows several reinterpretations, whether in furniture or wall coverings, besides bringing the biophilic design proposal into the environments.

The São Paulo Pattern in its turn, looks at the urban aspect. It gives a new vision of the largest metropolis in Brazil and proves that it is possible to find meaning and beauty in the midst of the "jungle of stone".

Design as a differentiator

The main aspect is the possibility of using landscapes (forest and metropolis) as hybrid patterns for furniture manufacturing, creating a new perspective for interior designs. In parallel, the project brings the macro narrative of the planet's climate and geopolitical changes into people's daily lives, allowing different interpretations with each new look.

The feeling, memory, or energy that each location provides when incorporating these MDF panels is another attraction to be explored by professionals in the sector. Browse the 360º tour and get inspired by the patterns applied. See suggested combinations and more details of the patterns at www.guararapes.com.br/perspectivas.

We wanted to provoke a new look, a new perspective of the planet we live on. This was the central idea of the project, which was only possible by combining high technology and a process of disruptive innovation in the creation of patterns

International recognition with the iF Design Award

The world's oldest independent design organization, iF - International Forum Design GmbH, based in Hannover (Germany), has been organizing the iF Design Award since 1954. Internationally acclaimed, the iF seal aims to recognize quality construction and design innovation in innovative projects in the areas of architecture and interior design, communication, service design, packaging, and product.

It is worth remembering, the first Brazilian winner of the iF Design Award was the architect Abrão Assad, who won in the product design category in 1992 with the Estação Tubo in Curitiba, Paraná.

Currently, for the evaluation of the projects, an independent jury of 132 high-level design experts uses five technical criteria: Idea, Shape, Function, Differentiation and Impact. Based on these criteria, the jurors assign points for the individual aspects of each entry and also provide informative feedback to the participants.

After bringing to MDF, in an unprecedented way, representations of other materials such as canvas, fabrics, stones and metals, this was the most daring project we have ever done. A great teamwork, which involved an international team of eight people, over more than a year and made possible a unique, innovative and disruptive result. To have this project recognized with the 'Oscar' of design is an honor

says Humberto Oliveira, Marketing Manager of Guararapes.

The team ahead of the patterns awarded at the iF Design Award 2022 was formed by: Humberto Oliveira, Jessica Hori and Diego Rodrigo Andrade, from Guararapes; Cláudia Küchen, Michael Aigner, Sandra Mohr Ludwig, Juliana Mayumi and Elisa Toazza, from Schattdecor; as well as Benjamin Grant, from Overview project.
